The extraordinary efficiency of the brain relies on the unique properties of its cells and their harmonious interactions. While neurons are often the focus, the brain is also composed of 50% non-neuronal cells, each playing a critical role in its function. This course will explore the diverse cell populations of the brain and their intrinsic properties, as well as the dynamic interactions between them in both healthy and pathological states.
The brain will be studied both through the interactions of its constituent cells and as a full organ, revealing the remarkable properties of its vascularization and the blood-brain barrier, alongside lesser-known but essential structures such as the choroid plexus and the circumventricular organs. The course will also highlight how a deep understanding of fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms can pave the way for exploring therapeutic avenues and proposing innovative solutions to neurological challenges.
